Blaah.
rip 10/3 pepere
rip 10/4 memere
that weekend I went home early friday as opposed to later to hopefully see memere, but i didnapos;t make it. So that weekend we basically spent taking care of everything, and cleaning out her nursing home room and making arrangements and what not. Basically no down time. I came back to school on Sunday night, and flew home wednesday morning. I feel like iapos;ve missed so much school. On wednesday I went to see my gramma, and she didnapos;t want to go out to dinner so I went with my dad and Amy and Raquel. I miss them so much. I wish I was closer to my family. No one here is like them. And people donapos;t get my sense of humor and arenapos;t all smiles and happy and see the bright side of everything and just not like my friends at all. Theyapos;re friends..sure. But not those kind of friends that you can cry to and have sleepovers with and sleep in the same small bed and sit online and watch your favorite shows over and over and eat ice cream and talk about life. More like 90 of the girls I hang out with would rather get drunk. The first week of school I swear there were liek 7 of them who were hammered every night. And now itapos;s just thursday, friday and saturday. And sometimes wednesday. I think itapos;s ridiculous.
The funerals were nice. They weapos;re both up in Lewiston/Auburn because both sides of my dads family all lived and grew up around there. On thursday was my pepere juneauapos;s funeral. It was very neat, and organized, and classic. The priest read psalms and everyone sung songs and people from the church read stuff and la la la. And they had his urn in this glass carrying case...it was really unnecessarily fancy. Afterwards we went to Marcoapos;s to eat lunch, and the family invited everyone, so I didn;t know like 75 of the people because they werenapos;t family. My aunt and uncle and cousins came up from North Carolina so it was nice to see them. And my Grandpaapos;s 2nd wife, Effy, who I adore so much came too =) It was so nice to be together. The burial for that funeral was on Friday, because my pepere was a generalapos;s assistant so they had the 21 gun sulute thing and all that, but we didnapos;t go because it was my memeres funeral.
My memeres funeral was much more personal and family oriented. Aside from my Gramma, she is the only one of her home family alive. My pepere died when I was 4, and both of her sisters and her other two daughters and her parents have all passed. Raquel and Amy and I took at least 100 pictures and made display boards with purple ribbons because that was her favorite color. I also made a slide show with pictures and music that involved everyone. THe funeral was more personal in a way that one of the priests who had been the periest at the church where my family went and who we all knew well decided to come to that service even though he didnt have to. My dad and uncles each read a psalm and we had a chorus to sing and Amy read a poem and I couldnapos;t even get through the first line of my reading so I just read it at lunch. I sat next to my gramma the whole time and just held her hand. It was very family involved. When we went to the cemetary after they had a little service thing there, and then we all went down to the burial (The family did.) My memere was buried right next to my pepere. They have a plaque together, on one side it says "Armand R. Parent 1914-1994" and the other side said "Hilda M. Parent 1913-2008" And there was a little cross and an angel and flowers on top. My gramma put one of her teddy bears in the hole with the urn, since her favorite one was cremated with her. When the grave guy was filling the hole in with dirt, my cousin Hayden who is almost 3 was helping him throw dirt in. And after the grass was on top and packed down, Hayden went over to the tree, got three pine cones and made a smiley face on top of the grave. It was the cutest thing ever. Then before we all left, Zac, Xander, Me, and Raquel were just all standing there looking over it in silence. It was warm out and there weapos;re flowers everywhere and the trees had started chaning colors. Next to their grave was my great aunt lindaapos;s, and then across the cemetery were connie and alice and evelyn. So their family is all around them.
We all went out to chinese food after, because that was memeres favorite.
Later that evening Meghan and I drove back here to philly. It took us from 430 to almost 3. Ridicc. But we stopped to eat and got lost twice. =) When we finally fell asleep, go figure, people came back wasted and loud. I was rather upset. On saturday we slept lattee And then got ready, went out to eat downtown, walked around, talked, held hands, and walked up to the penitentiary for Terror Behind the Walls. It was sooo much fun. And it was definitely scary. =) We came back and had the room to ourselves, which was nice, and we weapos;re in bed by one or so. Sunday we got up and got ready and went to outfest, and that was soo much fun There weapos;re tons of guest speakers...one of the girls from queer as folk, the kid from my so called life, the mayor came and supported the singer BETTY and a lot of others. It was such a welcoming environment. Yesterday we hung out allll day and did really nothing and this morning Meghan went homee =( Iapos;m wearing her shirt and it smells sooo much like her. I love it. I have to go to FYO now. And if you havenapos;t yet, The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night Time is an AMAZING book. Definitely check it out. I read it in two days.
